On Dec. 20, 2017, residents at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany, Indiana, got a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Mrs. Claus (Carol Weaver, activity assistant) came by in the morning and read “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” to the residents and served cookies and hot cocoa.
In the afternoon, Santa (Weaver’s husband, Steve) joined her and four elves (activities associates) and brought gifts to each resident. The gifts were donated, many of them by associates who chose a resident’s name off an angel tree at the facility. Gifts included items like scarves, perfume, cologne, word search books, pens, coloring books and crayons, handkerchiefs, socks, slipper socks, blankets and stuffed animals.
“Residents on the dementia unit cried because they didn’t think they were going to receive a gift,” said April Davidson, activity director. “Mr. and Mrs. Claus donate their time each year to deliver gifts and a gentle smile. We are so blessed to have them with us.”
