On May 31, 2017, a dozen residents from Green Valley Care Center in New Albany, Indiana, attended the local Senior Games at the Salvation Army building in New Albany.
Several other skilled nursing facilities brought residents for some friendly competition and fun in Olympic-style games. All the participants enjoyed a sack lunch together in the gymnasium.
Eight Green Valley Care Center residents brought home medals from the contests. Carolina Garcia won the gold medal for the bean bag toss. Residents swept the category in floor basketball, with Kenneth Sweeney earning gold, his wife, Sylvia, earning silver and Virginia Carr earning bronze. In cornhole, Ethel Cundiff won the gold medal. Acel Elam won silver in trivia, and Joan Landrum won bronze in trivia.
“I had fun, and I won,” said Cundiff.
“I just can’t believe I did so well,” said Elam.
“We are so proud of our Green Valley Senior Game players,” said April Davidson, activity director.
