On July 18, a group of residents from Green Valley Care Center in New Albany, Indiana, participated in the 2018 Senior Games at Providence – a Diversicare Transitional Care Community in New Albany.
Seniors from five skilled nursing and rehab facilities in the area competed on facility teams in contests including corn hole, ring toss, basketball and trivia. There was even a T-shirt contest for the team with the most creative shirt designs, which the Green Valley Care Center team, Groovin’ Grannies and Grandpas, won.
After the games, each facility provided a sack lunch for its residents before the awards were given out.
Green Valley residents took home a good number of awards this year. Chuck Phillips won gold in the trivia contest, while Don Temple won gold twice – once for being the oldest male at the games and once for basketball. Ethel Cundiff won silver in ring toss, and Sherry Waddell won bronze in the same contest.
“I can’t believe I won the gold,” said Temple. “I’m glad I came. I had such a great time!”
“We had a great time competing against the other seniors, and plans are in the making for next year’s events,” said April Davidson, activity director.
